Watershed Ambassadors

It was great to have the Watershed Ambassadors this past week at Sedge Island! We hope it was a great experience for everyone. A highlight for Jim was when everyone slept outside, and then organized at sunrise for a paddle. You guys were fantastic and seemed up for anything.

So now we want to know about your experience; whether you had fun or hated the island. Please let us know if you have any suggestions that could have made your visit better. We would also like to know if there was any particular experience that you really liked or disliked, and how you are doing with your Sedge Conservation Resolution.

If anyone is interested in helping out with future groups, we have a group coming Wednesday May 18-20. They are a group of learning disabled children and we are looking for some volunteers to help with our group paddle, most likely on that Thursday. Aside from groups please stop by anytime you are on the marsh and pop in to say hi. We hope this was a positive experience for everyone and that the Watershed ambassadors will be back next year!

I had an awesome time on Sedge...I loved fishing in the sunset, clamming and eating what we caught, kayaking all over the place in the bag lady banana (that's what Jess and I named our boat), and sleeping outside. My only regret is that I didn't stay outside on the boat all night...I should have sucked it up :( I guess I'll have to come back and give it another go! Thanks Jim, Katina, Michelle and the other ambassadors for the fabulous two days!

Good job Holly, you are our first outside responder. We hope you can come again (and sleep out on the boat next time.)

Hey, Michelle are you reading any of this? You were a great organizer. We look forward to another visit from the Watershed Ambassadors soon.

Thanks for a great time on Sedge. The memory of waking up (sort of) to watch the sunrise and then hitting the water in our kayaks while the sky was still a hazy purple and pink will stick with me for a while. I'll definitely be stopping by to visit soon. Thanks!

What a great experience! Thank you, Jim and Katina, for the Memories and I will be back. Kayacking at sunrise and having breakfast at the Lighthouse, Fishing at Sunset, Making burgers, Watching everyone trying, and most successing, to shuck a Little Neck. Jim and Katina, I enjoyed my time on the Island
Although, Having a Nuclear Power Plant in eyesite is onething that I hope will change!

Thanks again for having us at Sedge Island! I had an awesome time that I'll never forget. SOME of my favorite times were sleeping outside with nothing above us but the stars, Kayaking at sunrise, having breakfast at the lighthouse, trying to shuck open the clams, and making dinner together as a group or maybe I should say trying to figure out how to make dinner as a group.
Thanks again, I'm so glad we got to fully experience Sedge Island.

I had a great time- I only wish I could have spent the night!! I still had a blast kayaking, seining, and claming. The toilet was a high light too- it wasn't as all as scary as I thought it was going to be. I really enjoyed seeing all the algae- cause remember, "My name is Cara and I like algae."
I had a FABULOUS time and I hope I can come back to experience more of the island!!!!

I was so grateful to have the opportunity to see Sedge Island. My favorite part of the trip was hearing about the research on American Oystercatchers. I was impressed to see all the glossy ibises, and the loon in full breeding plumage was amazing.

I loved kayaking out in the salt marshes as well. I have never been that close to an osprey nest before! The experience has made me think about buying my own kayak, actually. And I am also planning on inviting my parents to go to Island Beach State Park, so we can explore the beaches and various paths.

Thanks for taking your time to give us an exciting and instructive experience- it is certainly one of the highlights of my AmeriCorps experience!

It is nice that so many of you have written to us. We would love to have you come back again. Remember the Sedge Island Marine Conservation Zone is open to all- so you can paddle out anytime. Let us know when you are comming and we'll have the Clivus (THE highlight for many of you)ready for your use. Jim
